Harry Writes about Nature School - Nature Kids Weekdays!

Meet Harry!

Harry is one of our Nature Kids, he comes to Nature School one-day-a-week in Mount Maunganui. He recently wrote a letter which made my heart burst, so I asked if I could share it with you all.

Hi KCC,

My name is Harry. I am 7 years old and I go to Nature Kids on a Thursday, which is a programme during school time. Kathy is the teacher and she is amazing. We meet at Mount Drury in a tent which is our base for the day. Only 5 people are allowed to do it. My school principal said I could do it as I needed his permission to do "alternative learning" one day a week!

We explore nature. We get to explore at morning tea time too... nature, trees and other things. I love it! And my favourite bit is...everything! So far this term we have been bird nerds, learnt about bees, explored the signs of spring and studied trees. Kathy does a school holiday programme too. My teacher at school and even some of my friends are all jealous!

From Harry.

Thank you, Harry! I think you are amazing and I love having you at Nature Kids - Weekday Nature School.

So, let me tell you a little about Nature Kids Weekday Sessions.

Nature Kids is a one-day-a-week, in-term nature school for kids aged 6 to 12 years (from 5 years in Waihi Beach). At our three locations across the Bay of Plenty we offer nature-based education and learning experiences, facilitated by Kathy Broadhead, a qualified and experienced teacher and environmental educator.

In this supportive and engaging setting your child will thrive through nature play and intentional learning experiences. They will build confidence, self-esteem and a sense of wonder. They’ll make friends and have fun whilst being guided by experienced and qualified educator(s).

Perfect for homeschoolers, or as a one-day-a-week alternative from mainstream school. Under the Education Act 1989, school principals may authorise any student to attend alternative education outside the school premises. This is often referred to as a one-day school, and we currently have a number of awesome kids from mainstream school spending one day a week with us.

Each day we explore nature across a broad theme, and blend intentional experiences, child-led learning and nature play. Each session builds on the next, so we like kids to join nature school one day a week for the whole 8 week term (at your choice of location - Mount Maunganui, Tauranga or Waihi Beach).

At Nature Kids, our kaupapa is to be curious, caring and collaborative. We investigate, discuss, create, draw and explore nature, outside all day.
